Day of Solidarity with detained and missing staff

New York, 25 March: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon today called international attention to the risks faced every day by UN personnel in the service of peace around the world. He said that 40 United Nations staff members are currently under arrest, in detention

or missing. "Most of them are national staff, whose plight we must not forget," Mr. Ban said.

Five UNMEE Eritrean national staff members are among those detained.
